E.C. Jim Ashley, 89, of Hot Springs Village died June 11, 2016. Jim was born December 10, 1926 in Joliet, Illinois, the son of Edgar Chapman Ashley Jr. and Mildred Merle Barlow.
Mr. Ashley served in the U.S. Army during World War II and later attended Southern Illinois University. He received his B.S. degree from St. Procopius College, Lisle, Illinois, majoring in Physics. Mr. Ashley had a long career as a Health Physicist employed by Argonne National Laboratory, Goodyear Atomic Corporation, U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (now U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission).
Mr. Ashley was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Hot Springs Village. He was a Fourth Degree Sir Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Jim moved to Hot Springs Village in 1992.
Jim was preceded in death by his first wife of 44 years, Gloria Jean Trevison Ashley on July 25, 1997 after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Joan Hinken Ashley, his daughter, Lou Ann (Bruce) Vollmer of Columbia, MD. And his son, James B. Ashley of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Erin (Michael) Vollmer Ryan, and Emily (Erik) Vollmer Smith, also two great-grandsons, Sean Patrick Ryan and Joshua James Ryan. Jim is also survived by his wife’s children: Mike Hinken, S.O.L.T., Mark (Marion) Otis Hinkin, Joan Maree (Richard) Proskurnicki, Jennifer Edwina (Greg) Krinickas, Sarah (Tim) Hinken Harbaugh, and 8 grandkids.
There will be a Funeral Mass at 11:00a.m. on Friday, June 17th at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church..
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to CedarVale Funeral Home.
